In the Peoria paper on Sunday. "The IDNR believes that bowfishing for sportfish should not be allowed." -DNR director Marc Miller,responding to a debate over allowing bowfishing for Ill. gamefish.

Yes, I defently agree. Shooting sport fish should no be allowed. We are here to help sport fishing not compete with them.

Who the hell is bringing up this debate? I'll bet it's not bowfishermen. The real question sometimes becomes, how do you determine a "sportfish" but as stated above, we work in conjunction with sportfishermen and not against.

BTW, I caught a 7 lb common this evening on my 4 wt flyrod by accident while fishing for smallies. It felt a little unusual after the 16 minute tug of war to remove the fly and RELEASE him. Ha

The first time I read the headline in the paper, I went "What"!
I then took in the context, aka I actually read all the words in the sentence. I agree, sport fish should be off limits to bow fishing. In addition, on the same page it was mentioned, in a negative light, that carp had spawned at Emiquon. Maybe this would be an opportunity for those that are opening doors for the sport to begin the process of conveying the benefits of bow fishing to remove these invasive, non-native species.

Two reasons:

I was on private property and had promised the land owner that I would release anything that I caught (didn't know beforehand that there were carp in there) and I had no way of proper fish disposal even if I had wanted.
