Default Pictures from the weekend (July 17-20)

Okay, here are some of the pictures from the 'weekend' bowfishing adventure.

This was a nice trip because there was no tournament for us to worry about, no set schedule, we had the dog with us... we just hung out, ate and shot a couple of fish.

We met up with Doctor Robster down at the Grand Chain Lodge. We shared a spiffy little cabin with him. It was right on the Ohio River.

Piscivorous Pontoon. You can see the cabins in the background.

First fishes of trip.

Rob can shoot too.

Back at the cabin Rob explains how the world would run if he were King. LOL. We had a lot of laughs.

Our night bowfishing trip. We took a short roadtrip to different waters.

Dang, it was cold out there!

Scarred up silver carp. (gah, I always look like a stoner!)

Kendall got two of these giants that evening.

A first for me!

It was messed up when I shot it, so I think I did it a favor by putting it out of it's misery.

Sunday we headed up to Carlyle.

Rob was going to go with us and shoot bigheads but he got a nail in his van tire and decided that he should probably go home while it was still daylight.

The people bank fishing around the spillway were almost shoulder to shoulder. It was pretty hard to bowfish up there with all those people so we stayed closer to the ramp and also went up the old riverbed. The glare on the water was bad from the low angle of the sun (it was about 6pm) so we didn't see many bigheads. If you wanted to shoot gar, you could shoot until you couldn't pull the bow back anymore.

Kendall did get this 24+ lb bighead.

We shot a couple of gar, another bighead and a silver before we called it a day.

The next morning (Monday) we hit the spillway bright and early (for us). There were a lot less people out, which was nice.

All those hook and line fishermen out there means there's plenty of discarded/lost line to get tangled in. Be sure to have a knife handy.

We also got some bigheads wearing 'jewelry'.
(ouch... right in the eye!)

This giant snagging hook was stuck in the side of one of the bigheads.

Not too long after we got there, a motley crew of guys from Danville and PA showed up and started hammering bigheads.
If I could figure out how to put video on here... you could watch them shooting bigheads... and Johnnyb dancing!

JohnnyB got this nice sized spotted gar.

Group shots:
(I think we shot at least 54 bigheads between the two boats but a lot of them are not in the picture because we had given away a bunch and we also had cleaned several and had them in the cooler already.)

Kendall's big fish of the day. 25lbs 14 oz.

yeah we got there late for every spot haha....im talking about as soon as you put in...instead of going towards the acual spillway got down river until the first bend....on the left (east) there is a submerged sandbar that has ALOT of gar...almost like the old riverbed...and when we went out there there were groups of 10-20 bigheads but the sun started to glare and we couldnt see squat...that was the first time i saw bigheads in there like that out of the 10 times ive been there but who knows...they could be back

Slow day on the kaskaskia below carlyle dam. My cousin Marty shot 22 big heads last week inculding on dandy 40pound plus. Today he too a cousin for his first time and they only shot 3 all day. There were two other boats and they did not do much better. Just seems like for what ever reason they were just down. I'm thinking that they knew Kendall and Christine was in the neighbor hood. word travles fast through water.
