Default Good Day on Illinois River Backwaters

Myself and a buddy had some good shooting this weekend. Shot several Big Heads, commons, gar and Dogfish. Only my 3rd time out but starting to hit some fish now.

Nice!

Where were you fishing at? Were you on shore?

Yes, from the bank. Near Hennepin, IL. The river floods the ponds behind me in the picture and also creates some ditches 30 feet wide with about 4 feet of water in them. Been getting a lot of shots in the flooded ditches. Just stand there and they keep swimming by one after another.

That's not too far from me. Is it on private property or is it open to the public? Mark S and I were thinking of trying a new spot this weekend. Maybe we can head out that way. We were planning on hitting the Kishwaukee near Belvidere saturday.

I have been up that way many times just never stopped to stick any fish. We have been trying to learn new tourny lakes this year. Lots of places I want to try out just need more time and money. Its always good to see people finding new honey holes.
