Default propellers

Any one out there have any thoughts on 4 BLADE vs 3 blade props. My original 3 blade is really chopped, bent, and has missing pieces. So i got on line and for $10 more i could buy a 4 blade aluminum. Will be going on my 2001 merc.25 hp. The motor does really well with a empty boat. When tournament loaded it really boggs down and plows. Thought the extra blade may help get me up and going better. Cannot afford more HP. ANY THOUGHTS.

Johnny a 4 blade is used to get on plane quicker, or for a heavier load. But it depends on how much weight you are trying to plane out. With a 4 blade you will lose mile per hour. Also, dont take this wrong, but if you have a 4 stroke motor, they just do not have the power that a 2 stroke does, and many, many people are unhappy with them( I was parts manager at a boat dealer ) and this is my sons login, he is the parts guy now, so I have heard it all. Hope this helps, let me know..take care

Thanks, fortuantly i have a 2 stroke. So that is what i am looking for is to push a heavy load. When i am in tournament mode, I have extra batteries, gas, genny, lights, barrels of fish, usually two extra people. So lots of extra weight. Empty the little 25 jumps up on plane no problem, but with all the stuff, i just plug along. Thanks for the information.

Got my nice new 4 blade prop in the mail today. Sure does look pretty on the back of the merc. Now to get it wet. Im thinking of using it on nice deep lakes and my old 3 blade on rivers and Places like Turtle creek were you can run a ground in the middle of the lake. Sure makes you appreciate the internet, just a few clicks, $80 bucks and a couple days later you got a new prop. Could not believe how easy it was to change too. Just one 7/8 inch nut. off and the new one one.
