headed to Illinois end of month need advice

The last week of June headed to a Metropilis Ill for a Archery Tournament. would like to come down couple days earlier and try the Asian carp thing out. Are there any Asian carp down that far South. If someone could put us on some carp that would be great. Thanks

I know a couple of folks that shot at that tournament. (LadyForge and Louie) They went and shot a bunch of gar at Mermet State Lake. There are bigheads in the Ohio there at Paducah, but I haven't shot in that area, so I can't tell you much.

I think Robow has shot the river down there. I'll askhim.

Is there even a guide in that area you would recommend. If not what is the key elements you look for in the river to get on them. and then you need to rev up your engine to get jumping.

I may not made it clear the tournament I will be attending is a 3D Shoot has nothing to do with bowfishing. Just simply a few guys would like some tips on where to find some fish for a weekend. I am not going to be invading someones spot regulary. We are from Oklahoma and go to Ill once a year if that. Thanks

Sounds like you are looking for the jumping Silver carp. They are in heaver numbers up north like in the Illinois river. Down were you will be the Big Head's are more abundant. Just Below the Ky dam is a great place if you have a boat. Do not know any one down that way. The price of gas is keeping most of us close to home. I made 5 trips down last year. One so far this year. Right now the gar are up, a few spoon bills and of course the big heads.

If you're willing to drive a bit, you could go to the Rend Lake Spillway. There are lotsbigheads in there.

Horseshoe lake in Alexander County has lots of asian carp in it and they rent out boats.
That lake is near Olive Branch, IL.
(it's much closer than Rend)

Also, you may want to go to www.Siloutdoors.com and ask this question there.
