Bulzeye and I spent a few hours last night on the Des Plaines not far from DCA for the year's maiden voyage. And did we ever find fish! I've been out on a boatat DCA a few times over the years and nevergotten into many fish, but Chrisknew exactly where to find them last night. I couldn't begin to guess how many doubles we had; either two fish on one arrow or each of usshootingat different fish in the same group and hitting them both. He was really on the mark. I'd have to say our shoot/hit ratio was way over 50%. Probably closer to 60%.
We finally had to call it a night after overflowing and nearly breaking his 30-plus-gallon tub. As you can see, the sides are about ready to blow out. I'll have to wait for Chris to get back from work today for a final count, but I'd be shocked if we boated less than 70-80 fish (all 5-12pounds or so), including two really nice buffalo and one mirror carp).
Edit: Bulzeye just informed be were weren't actually at DCA, but on the Des Plaines River.
Good job! Make sure to add them to them '08 fish count.
Hmmmmm, but can Bulzeye find the fish on Rend?
I hope so, but one thing's for sure: if he finds them they're dead. With the exception of the first few fish he shotlast night, everything else he boated waswith that solid fiberglass recurve he got for free. I was honestly shocked at howaccurate he was with that thing, especially when it came to long, tough shots at the edge of the lights.
The official total was 61 fish (59 common carp, 2 smallmouth buffs)
No goldfish though. What can I say? None to be found.
Took me ten minutes just to get them out of the boat.
Thanks for coming out Jason. I had a blast, and the natural teamwork will come in handy at Rend, I'm sure.

nice shooting. Those look like some pigs, I think even I could have connected on some of those, ......... nah probably not.
Chris, have any idea what that little fiber glass bow is pulling?
I'll bet that thing is extremely light and comfortable to hold all nite.

Good grief,I guess I didn't realize what a pile of fish we'd killed just looking at them in the tub. And speaking of the tub, it doesn't look like it exactly sprung back into shape. Do we need to pick up a new one (or two) before Rend Lake?
Very nice haul guys. What a maiden-voyage for you Chris! And I'm very glad Jason got to go. That's what it's like out there alot of the time.
Hopefully a few of us can meet up out there this summer and see if we can't shoot a couple hundred in a night. William has his boat now, and I'vegot my little plastic boat, and I've got another jon boat coming home soon, so we can have a few of us out at once.
Again, nice shootin' guys. I'm really glad you had such an awesome night.
nice shooting. i was out there on march 23rd and saw quite a few but couldn't hit any so i knew they would be getting better. congrats. i am hopefully gonna get out next weekend depending on my knuckle.
