Default Shoot-thru Bowfishing Reel

I was thinking of using my longbow to shoot carp this spring and would like to purchase a shoot-thru type bowfishing reel. Anybody use one of these before?

I have not used the shoot through type, but have used the drum type and they work well. You just have to hand wind in the line Kind of like using a AMS with a big fish. I guess it would depend on how you sight you bow if the reel would get in your way.

I was thinking of getting a 10" shoot-through reel from Sullys. I have a very high end longbow (Mathews Heritage) and I'm still not sure I want to slime it up. I was thinking of buying a used longbow (a cheap one) specifically for bowfishing. What would you do Johnny B?

Judd, we (the club) has a brand new cajun tape on reel. It's not a shoot thru but it should work on a longbow. A picture of it is on this page: http://www.bowfishingextreme.com/ItemsForSale/Reels/bowfishing%20reels.htm

We'll make you a deal on it.

If I had a high end anything I would not use it. Although i have admit that i do not get much slime on my bow. Now me yes. Some how i take better care of my bowfishing bow (which was given to me). Now days recurves are pretty cheap to come by. In a few weeks there will be yard sales galore. Just make sure that it is smooth and does not stack. As Kendall he is the recurve gure.

I have Bear tape-on drum reel but the string keeps falling off when I am walking on the bank...

I also have a plastic tap on drum reel for my recurve. It has two small plastic knobs that the line goes inbetween and it hold it until you shoot. If you do not have that you can tape a paper clip on the reel and put the line in between the two loops so it will pull out when you shoot.
