Default Lots of snakes this year.

I've been seeing a lot of these guys this year while bowfishing.

The caption I found says it's a Midland Water Snake, similar to the Northern Water Snake.

They've been cruising parallel to the shore just a few feet out from the bank. One day I saw over a dozen, and the biggest was almost 4 feet long and as big around as a broom handle.

Wasn't sure if it was legal to shoot, and had no idea what I would do with it once I got it in the boat. Also didn't know about the whole 'is it poisonous' thing.

Other IL snakes are listed here...

Have never ran into a poisonous water snake yet. (well except for the copper mouths and water mocousins) I know of a few people that eat them.

I'd like to find out if we can shoot them. We see lots of snakes when we shoot on the DesPlaines and I'd really like to get one in the boat for Mark.

Don't do it when KBI Pres is in the boat, or we will have a very wet club Treasurer. I take it that Mark would have a similar reaction?

It would have to be a great shot; those things are very skinny (unlike Fishpoint).

Gosh I sure hope so. I can't wait to find out. Mark feels the same about snakes as I do about spiders. Well, maybe worse...

That's a cool pic Johnny.
Is that pose a mating thing, or are they just friends with privileges?
