Default Trolling motor shaft

I know this is going to sound odd, but how would one actually shorten a trolling motor shaft?

I have a Minn Kota 55lb thrust All Terrain Foot controlled. In order for me to go into the shallows I end up having to stuff a large towel in the mount before I drop it in the water. If I don't I am beating the tar out of the prop.

Let me know if I can be helped......Thanks

Hmm.
Can't youuse the shaft-collar-clamp thingy to adjust it to run shallower?

Maybe a new collar thingamabob could be made for it?

Sorry to get all technical on you. [:-]

LOL.......I have already shortened the thingamabob doomahicky as much as she will go....I think this motor was originally for a pontoon or something.......You know like for the barges ....

I wonder if it is even possible to dissasemble the lower half and cut the shaft to size? I dunno; never been into one of them.

If you're going to take off an end, go for the upper end. The lower part is threaded and epoxied on. I hear it's a royal pain in the hiney to get it apart and then put it back together in a water tight fashion.
