Default Finally!!

This has been the most frustrating season I can remember! I've had over 20 deer within 40 yards of me this year, and I couldn't close the deal on one.
Till this morning.
I had 8 or 9 deer come within 25 yards today, in 2 groups. The second group were 3 does, andI shot the first one.It was a 25-27 yard shot and I hit her a little high (I thought it was 30 yards and aimed a touch high). She dropped where I hit her and I followed up with a second shot. So now I can have some steaks!!!

WOO HOO!! Man, it's about time! I was starting to wonder if I was gonna get one this year.

Here she is.

Thanks sis!

Nice job!

I guess we can scratch you off the list of those suffering from P.A.D.*

* Peripheral Archery Disease. (when you shoot all around the deer)

Congrats Steve!!

He did earn it. The tree he was in was pretty skinny and it was just downwind of an open area. Plenty of swaying goin' on, and the undergrowth around there is VERY thick, so shooting lanes were in short supply.

My daughter and I joined him to get the details in person while examining the gutpile, and to help toget the deer up a muddy slope and back to the car.

Very nice pic Steve, and I'm glad you didn't get skunked after passing on several shots this year. Here's to you Doe-Killer-Guy.

Merry Backstraps, and a Happy New Deer!

Thanks again Chris for the help. That first up-hill slope is the worst part of hunting down in that river-bottom, but it's been my favorite place to hunt for years. I've shot 4 deer within 100 yards from that exact spot, including my first.

The rain really wasn't that bad. The only reason I don't like hunting in it is the problems with tracking. I just try that much harder to make a good shot. I actually take alot of pride in hunting in crap weather. Plus, the woods are alot more empty when it's rainy or super-cold. That's part of the whole public-hunting-thing.

Besides, if you seen the buckI saw in that area, you'd be out there every possible moment too. [&o]

Doe-killer-guy...that kills me!
