Default Shelbyville

I think I'm going to head back over to Shelbyville this weekend for another shoot. My brother is going to come along this time, and maybe one of my other friends. Planning on getting there around 7:30 - 8:00pm on friday and fishing a good deal of the night. Ifigure I'lljust go back to Wolf Creek since I know where it is. Anyone else going to be there?

Jake
Chris Followell from Waynesville who was at the Drill and Grill last weekend and was at the fish fry will be back Friday nite. Not sure where he is putting in. He is bringinga "newbie" and another friend who has been out once. He is hoping to beet Robow's 55 inch Longnose. Chris is a taxidermist and has mounted 2 gar this summer and is still looking for that 60 incher that he has seen.
Be sure to hollow at him if you see him and check out his"pole light".

Mid September is a great time to get big gar, especially if you get a real warm sunnyday, they will be up top catching rays, my personal best 59" 19 lb came on a mid September day as did Bowfishers' 20 lber. [:@]

Shelbyville is the place to go to shoot alot of fish and there are some nice longnose in there. That lake is very hard on a boat if you are shooting close to the bank

I got to ride along with Chris for a couple hours last weekend during the day. I'll have to find out where he's going to be and meet up with him to check out the pole light. I've been working on plans for one myself.

I can't count the # of times I ran into trees and stumps last weekend. Nothing damaged, knock on wood. I'm hoping the same goes for tomorrow.

I haven't been to Shelbyville yet. Why is it tough on a boat buffhunter?

When you go up into the coves there is a lot of standing timber. The lake is old enough that a lot of the timber has rotted off above water level and you are always hitting the stumps with your trolling motor. You have to go pretty slow and careful. At night you spend as much time looking for junk in the water as you do fish. Some of the smaller coves with flatter shore lines are fine. It is usually up in these larger coves with the timber that you see the large gar crusing around looking for trouble.

Shelbyville was the very first lake I went out on at night. That was the most thrilling adventure I could remember second only to our honey-moon in Voyagers National Park on a houseboat for a week. The whole idea of going out on a boat, at night, with a bow and arrow, was awesome. I'll never forget it. That's what got me hooked.

My main point was, Shelbyville is LOADED with gar! I couldn't believe how many we saw out there. I shot my first gar there, and I think I got 4 or 5 that shoot. And actually, I shot my first and second in the daytime before the shoot. I shot the rest under the lights at night.
