Dall Sheep are the cherry on the sundae of Alaska’s mountains. Backpacking through the valley floors of the Talkeetna Mountains and glassing drainages is the method of these hunts.
Hunters will need to prepare to pack 50-65lbs for the duration of their sheep hunt. Spike camps consisting of one man tents create the freedom to relocate should the sheep move or other factors dictate camp locations.
Quality WATER-PROOF footwear that is suitable for walking on rocky terrain and side-hilling for extended periods of time is necessary.
Prior to the hunter’s arrival, (weather depending), clients have the option of a scouting flight that can be flown to locate perspective rams and determine exact hunting locations.
Sheep hunts take place the second half of August. Rams harvested will typically range from 34”-38”, with a 40” ram being exceptional
Grizzly bears are abundant in the Talkeetna Mountains of interior Alaska. Glassing valleys rich with blueberries and migratory routes is a sure fire way to encounter these nomadic bears.
The best times for hunting are June, August and September when the bears' hides are still at their prime. Colors vary greatly from blonde to dark chocolate to silver and range in size from 7’ to 9’+. Rifles in the .30 caliber range are best and the .338’s are also very well suited for grizzly bear hunting.
Be prepared for hunting condition shots at less than 200 yards.
Price of the hunt is $8000 but if two guys want to book this hunt it will only be $6500 each. It is a fully guided grizz/sheep combo hunt in the Talkeetna mts. August 8-20.
You will need to be in Anchorage on the 7th and plan to return home on the 21st. Dates are not really too flexible but we may be able to shift a day in either direction. Any charter flights are included in the price.
