Default hunting outfitting business

guys
im not based in the US but i wish to start my own outfitting business as a sleeping partner.
i dont mind investing in the land[buy or lease] and let some expert guide run the show.
can someone tell me whats the best way to get started in this venture and how much profit margins am i looking at?
i can make a few trips every year to the US so i will be partially involved in the operations.
any comments?

thanks

The 2 main reasons businesses go out of business is due to insufficient start-up/working capital and poor management.

In your scenario, you are the manager, but you'd have to heavily rely on someone to "manage" your operations from here... a partner you trust and knows his/her stuff, a partner with prior experience in the field of guiding.

Also, whenever I start a new business, I NEVER ask anyone their opinions of my dreams. If I feel it right, regardless of the masses that say it won't work, I do it anyway. If asking the right questions were the only prerequisite to success, I'd have no business failures to speak of. Fortunately I have a few. LOL!

As for "sleeping partner", it's more known around these parts as "silent partner", but then again, your "manager" may be a she. LOL!

Good luck, really. :-)

The last time i got involved in a conversation anything like this on the computer I ended up engaged to a 19 year old girl in Minsk, Russia. As soon as i send her the other half of that $10K she needs for her mother's operation she is going to come to the U.S. and we will be together forever....

Sorry to break it to you, but a sleeping partner might not be what you need.

Im in Real Estate so I know a little about small business and property management.

If your wanting to make good money at something like this you will need more involvement or have some VERY VERY VERY trustworthly people running it for you.

What kind of game are you thinking of deer? Elk? Hogs? Where at was you thinking? How much land are you thinking? I would think 500 acres at least to start.

What is the goal of having a "game ranch"? Are you just wanting to say you have a game ranch, or are you looking for a absoult trophy ranch?

With alot of game ranches the trophy animals are just part of the income. Some have farming, timber, and or mineral rights making profits as well.

I am no expert, this is just my 2 cents.

A hunting buddy of mine is looking for a sleeper partner to finance his business. I've taken a look at his business plan and it looks pretty complete. He has put a heavy emphasis on wildlife habitat improvement and management; which he knows quite a bit about. My understanding is he has already found the land and is ready to go... with the exception of funding.

The game would be white tailed deer, black bear, ruffed grouse, wood****, pheasants and waterfowl and would be located in New England.

Personally, I don't have the means to invest in a business like this, but if you're interested; I'd be happy to put you in touch with him. Drop me a pm if you're interested.

first of all apologies for the late reply.
the reason i wanted to start this business is just like anyone else wanting to invest in a new business.
i would love to own wilderness land in the US and that would be my main reason.
i would love to have a place of my own where i can spend a few weeks in the year hunting or camping.

i do understand that land isnt cheap in the US so i am open to lease as well.

you guys said that i need someone very trustworthy.thats a given and i know the guy will have to be very good with his job.

say if i find a outfitter guide who is willing to work on this project.
i meet him in the US and we get started with leasing the land, getting tags, legal paper work etc.
i was just wondering what risk am i facing with being a 'sleeping partner' in such a venture?
what could go wrong?

i have my brother in florida and maybe i could start the business there and have my brother make a few trips every month to see how things are doing.
moreover ill have a website and do the online marketing myself.
anyone can give me an insight to how this hunting outfitting business works?

thanks
ct
