The hunt would take place on a 60,000 acre portion of Ted Tuner's 600,000 acres Vermejo Park Ranch. Below is some information on this Do-It-Yourself cow elk hunt.

Unguided cow hunts on the 55B unit of the ranch. The guided cow hunts are on the unit 55 portion. This is the wintering, antelope flats and so on area of the ranch. There are restrictions on the ranch and the hunt. These are totally separate from the guided cow hunts we do. This is strictly a trespass hunt, we don't furnish anything or help in any way.
1. Hunts are three days, probably Saturday through Monday.
2. Mandatory check in and check out. The gates will open at one half hour before sunrise or when you can tell a cow elk from a spike. Check out by 10 a.m. check back in at 2 p.m. off the ranch by 1/2 hour after sundown.
3. Take up to 12 hunters per weekend (so could do a forum hunt of up to 12 hunters), two gates to enter the ranch (60,000 acres)
4. The licenses are $345 for non residents
5. Cow landowner permits are $300.
6. No camping on the ranch.
7. There are usually several hundred head of elk on the ranch, but it is flats and they can test your hunting abilities.
8. Hunts start December 1 and can go into February.
9. Licenses are valid for 30 days. If a person doesn't fill out on the weekend he can return for another weekend for half price provided it is within the 30 day time frame of his license.
10. I have between 50 and 100 of the cow permits.
