The outfitter I work with in New Zealand has had a few late cancellations as well as a couple of people who have already paid move their hunts to 2008. The result is there are now a handful of openings for red stag available for $3,500! This is not a "you can shoot this dink for $3,500 but that one will cost you $6,000" hunt. It is a free range red stag hunt on Mt. Nichaolas Station on almost 120,000 acres of exclusive hunting concessions. All meals, fees, beverages, trophy prep, and ground transportation are included in the price. To make it even better, a couple of the openings fell in the "rut hunt" (March 24-31) for stags when they are in full roar (similar to elk bugling). This hunt is 6 full days of hunting rather than 4-5, and yours truly will be going down to hunt and help out. Additional animals are available for an additional fee based upon species.
