Default need scope recomendation

looking to buy a scope for a 222 rifle. it will be used for coyote hunting. need suggestions on a cheaper scope under $200 (going to look on ebay once i make up my mind and hope to find a better scope around $150 max used or low price) do u prefer red dot scopes or reticle scopes? please explain why u like one better than the other. thanks in advance!

A Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40 should be less than $200. That's whats on my .223. The only red dots I have ever seen have not had much magnification. I haven't ever used one, so I can't comment much about them. I use my .223 for coyotes regularly, hunting in daylight and at night. It gathers light well, and the lower power helps it a bunch. I put a higher magnification (6x-18x40) scope on it, but I took it back off after about 2 weeks. The Nikon was a lot easier to use when trying to shoot and hold a light at the same time. It was also lighter and easier to carry. It holds a zero well.

factor # 1 under $200
factor #2 coyote hunting

AETEC 3.8-12X44mm

fully multicoated lenses, wide FOV, long eye relief. I have one on my Coyote gun. Works great. Never had a seconds worth of trouble out of it. The best bang for your buck for under $200.00

What kind of gun is this going on? The Aetec is a good choice, in the price range I'd also look at Bushnell Banner 4x12x40 AO.

this will be going on a savage .222 model 340 series E. it has rifle sights now and i plan to get raised scope rings so i can still use the open sights.

is there a problem with any of the scopes mentioned thndrchiken with mounting for certain guns?

ETXHunter, jdreddish, thndrchiken,
how do the scopes do in lowlight conditions?

My current favorite is the Simmons ATV 4.5-14x40, on sale at Natchez Shooters Supply for under $80.

The Aetec does very well, the 44mm objective allows it to gather more light. The lenses are fully multi coated, this helps with light transmission also. Dollar for dollar it's the best scope under $200 in my opinion. I recently bought a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9X40, It was a beautiful well made scope but the optics were horrible. Honestly I think I got a dud. They all can't be like that or no sane man would buy it. Anyways I sent it back and concidered a Nikon Buckmaster & Burris Fullfield II. But after a week of careful thinking I ended to w/ another Aetec.
