Default Cold weather

Ok need some advise, It has not yet been real cold here in the Midwest (Indiana). But already on some moring hunts it has droped down too the high 20s, And i get cold after setting on stand after several hours, I wear dry-plus bibs but i think it starts with the first layer do you have any tips as what is a good first layer to start with,

The first layer is critical if you work up a sweat walking in to your stand. You need a layer that will wick away moisture. You can get some good stuff at ski shops.

I also find that a neck gator and some of the disposable hand warmers help. Getting cold I'm convinced is part mental, the warmth of your breath into the neck gator and hand warmers helps!!

Wool or poly as a base layer. I have used both and like the Merino wool for it doesn't itch, and does a good job keeping my skin dry. Merino wool is marketed by one company as "SmartWool". I have been able to find Merino wool sweaters in thrift stores for $3-$5 and buy the bottoms at local sporting goods stores. A tip- when walking to your stand/blind walk in with your hat off and upper layers open to keep from sweating.

I hunt in WI, and normally it gets pretty cold. Not lately thought. Anyway, I would recommend wearing a "HeadSokz". Nice and warm head gear, that can be worn many ways. I would also recommend a "Hand Blanket" from Icebreaker. I've used these for years, and my head and hands have never really been cold since.
