Leupold scopes are good quality scopes and the VX-I should work very well although as you mentioned the VX-II would be better. There are other scopes in the same price range but the Leupold should work just fine and they do have life time warranty. Good Luck

I think you can't go wrong with ANY Leupold. If the best you can afford is a VX-I right now, you'll still be miles ahead of most all the others. I'm sure you've heard the expression, 'Buy a cheap rifle and the best scope you can and it will shoot better than a great rifle and a cheap scope'.

Personally I would opt for a Bushnell Elite 3200 over the VX I. My reasons are 1 piece tube, fully multicoated(which will equate to better optical gains such as light trans, resolution and clarity) and rainguard feature works as advertised. It comes with lifetime transferable warranty as well.

Nothing wrong with Leupold scopes as I have owned several over the years, however in the past few years the field has got a lot more crowded.

Best of luck.

I agree with you Skeeter...

I look at it this way, in Leupold you are getting a great name and great customer service. I beleive however in the price range of the VX-I you can get a lot more scope for your buck... The bushnell is a good choice as well as the Simmons Aetec, for slightly more money look at a Sightron (don't remember their top line) or Weaver Grand Slam.

Look for features like fully multicoated lenses, single tube, etc. Also decide how much eye releif you want.

One of the best if not the best scope makers in the world. I own three of them and would not trade them for anything( maybe a swarovski). Leuplod means quality. You won't be sorry you bought it.

Leupolds are good scopes but for the money ,I feel that there are better choices available.I would choose the elite 3200 over the vx1.
