Default Spotting Scope (Leupold Sequoia)

I am in need of a replacement but problem is funds(as usual). So keeping in mind a min. budget any suggestions?

What about any comments on the Leupold Sequoia or Wind River Spotting Scope 15-45X60?

I want it for scouting perdominantly but will find use on the range as well - 100-300 yards.

Thanks

Skeeter, I have the Leupold Sequoia with the angled eye piece. I haven"™t used it for scouting yet but have used it at the range. I tested it this spring for some one on this forum and found that after 200 yards the higher power would get blurry but the 15 x was nice and clear although , beyond 200 yards the smaller caliber's holes could not be seen . The 15 x is nice and clear with good field of view but when zooming to 45x the FOV was very small. I would suggest to take a look at the Bausch & Lomb Elite series. I find them to be better the the Leupold Sequoia.

Skeeter, I checked my notes and this is what I had found.

At 200 yards the 22 caliber holes were somewhat able to see at 15x and at 300 yards I was barley able to make out the holes for the 338 caliber with the 45x.

If you plan on using this spotting scope for distances up to 300 yards at the range , I would suggest to get something with higher power then 45x but it would also depend on the type of spotting scope meaning better quality. Good luck.....
