Deerskin Leather gloves

I saw a deerskin leather jacket in cabelas the otherday and i became very curious...could i make deerskin gloves or a belt out of the hide of a deer...instead of just wasting it? thanks for your input...

They also have a Van Dyke's tanning kit for $15. The description states that it will tan one deer hide in 24-36 hours. I don't know anything about leatherworking, but you could at least preserve the hide yourself.
