Default Eye Relief?

I dont know much about scopes yet. What is eye relief? Are there any gems in the rough when it comes to scopes?

eye relief is the distance from the back end of the scope to your eye. good measurement would be 3-4 inches, any closer and you will end up with the nicest circle around your scope eye and some blood to deal with. most of us have been through it and it will make you think twice before you pull the trigger again.

LeeinVa1 said it. No hiding a kiss from a scope either. Scout scopes take care of that though.

To original poster - in case you don' t know you can adjust the scope forward and backward in the rings so that you can sight well from your natural position holding the gun - within this 3-4 inches. I' ve seen a lot of people with what looked to me like contorted holds on their gun trying to be within the relief of their scope when they could have just adjusted it front/back. Of course, you should recheck your zero after adjustment. hope this helps. -zeke
