Default "The Colt '57" - .30-06

I inherited a gun from my great uncle a couple of years back and have been using it with great success--the only thing is I know nothing about the gun and I've asked a couple of my gun-savvy friends and none of them no anything about it. I was wondering if anyone had any information about the gun.

On the barrel is printed: "THE COLT '57" - CAL. .30-06 and COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. USA

Thanks!

MHC, your gun was manufactured in 243Win or 30-06. FN Mauser action mfg by Jeferson Mfg, Co. in New Haven CT. Made during 1957, approximately 5,000 made starting with serial no. 1. Checkered Americam walnut stock ( monte carlo ) withwwrap around front site. Value ranges from $260 - for 60% to $550. for %100.

Hope this helps.
