permethrin is the chemical of choice.
the cheapest way to do it is go to kmart or some other similar store and look for concentrated permethrin. just follow the mixing directions, with water, and put into a spray bottle. spray on clothing and let dry.

Commercial product that works very well is Repel but much more expensive than the concentrate

Permethrin is not really a repellent but it will kill the tick as the tick picks up a dose as permethrin sprayed on clothing leaves a residual.

And please do read all labels on any insecticide product.

I use the aerosol name Permanone.

Or a simple pyrethrum spray with a one second burst in a large plastic bag and insert all outdoor clothes and seal bag over night.

Some non insecticidal tips to help you with ticks

Wear those green rubber boots a ticks have a hard time clinging to them
Pull your socks over your pants legs to seal the lower body protion.
Wear a long sleeved turtle neck inner shirt.
Lighter colored clothing one can see the ticks easier
When back at camp never lay your outdoors clothes on your bed but hang in a separate place.
10 minutes in a dryer at a hot setting on your outdoor clothes will kill ticks. Just make sure all ammo is removed from pockets.

If bitten
Ticks removed promptly reduces the chance of a tick bourne diseases.
if a tick is found take a forceps - (tweezers) and grab at point of contact on skin and pull back. DO NOT squeeze the body of a tick as you are injecting things into your body!
Treat the area with alcohol wipe and wash throroughly. Take the tick and paste with clear scotch tape to a file card and mark ont he card the body area bitten, date, and where you think you got this tick. It may help later.
Not all Lymes cases form the tell tale RED Bullseye.

Ticks do not bury their whole body or head in you but do insert their peircing sucking mouth parts.
The quicker you take the tick off the better chance you have of not contracting any tick bourne illness. Most diseases are because the tick was attached more than 36 hours.

you ever notice when you get bit by tick it usually on your back.this is because they drop out of trees and land on your shoulders, then down your neck,
they follow your breath to your neck.
had doctor explain this too me.

Repel Permanone. Cutter makes a version of it also, I believe.

Never heard that before. Ticks normally are found in low lying, damp areas containing grassy weeds and brush. They climb to the tips and wait there with their legs in the ready. That way, when a potential host comes by and brushes against the plant tips the ticks "hitch" a ride. It's called questing.

Always turkey hunted in areas that had a LOT of ticks. I found that using either black or camo Duct tape and securely taping my pants to my boots. kept the little boogers from crawling up my legs. With shirt tails tucked into pants or better, coveralls. Doing same to shirt cuffs I reduced the ticks to a minimum. And the sensitivity of your neck find the ones that make it up to there. I rarely had one dig in. And I am one of those that ticks will jump on without even getting close.
