If one of my arrow fletchings is tore off will it effect my arrow flight very much?

yeah quite a bit. dont shoot it unless you are willing to lose that arrow.

NOTE if it just ripped and is still mainly attatched to the shaft it will be fine for targets

if your shooting field tips or mechanicals, you should be alright. fixed blade bh's go pretty crazy. Now I am not saying it will fly perfect, or as good as a properly fletched arrow, but you can still group it with fletched arrows. Actually I tore shot off a fletching today, and still was shooting the arrow from 65 yards an grouping with my others

Well sorry vermont but I have to agree with shoot2thrill. I often busted up vanes during a shooting session and had continued to shoot them with FTs without any adverse effects. Now I wouldnt use them for hunting with a fixed blade BH or
competetive shootion but for FTs - unless its off completely it should fly OK. you could trim it a bit to avoid excessive drag.

HA HA. I'm fletching as I write this. For target shooting I don't worry about a little tear. For hunting, I re-do all that aren't perfect.

Arrows shoot best with all three/four fletchings well attached, but you can shoot them with 2, 1, or even none. You'll probably still hit the target, but don't expect great accuracy especially in wind or far shots (there is a reason why arrows have fletchings if they did not do anything we wouldn't waste so much time putting them on now would we?). I've also found that if a fletching is ripped more than a third of the way from the shaft near the front, it is better rip it all the way off than to leave it on. Because it will hum when you shoot and create so much drag that it will either nose dive or veer off one way or the other. I've also found that arrows with ripped/missing fletchings shoot much worse out of a Whisker Biscuit, which coincidentally is the primary reason why the fletchings are ripped off of my arrows.
