Good company. I guess you would have to define success. I've been cold, wet and hunting alone, killed the biggest deer of my life. Another time hunting with my Dad, warm and dry, never saw a critter, up there with the best hunt, having a good time isa successful hunt.
Other things, water, toilet paper, jerky snacks or some kind of quick and quiet food source, flashlights or head lamps, first aid equipment, and make sure you take a knife that is suitable for field dressing. Don't ask me how I know but it is a little difficult to field dress a deer in the dark with a 3 inch jack knife.
Add walkie-talkies to that list for me. No more misunderstandings about who wasn't where and when. And they are a safety device in case something unexpected happens. I don't use some of the other "modern aids" such as GPS. Love a map and compass and the challenge they present.
#1) Thermacell - a must for hunting in our Florida swamps
