Default Rangefinder Suggestions

I am in the market for a rangefinder for both Archery and gun hunting.
I like the features of the Nikon Archers Choice but it would do me no good during gun season.

The Bushnell's with the ARC system seem good and have bodes for bow or gun.
Has anybody used these modes?

If someone has a better unit they know if please let me know.
I don't want to make a couple hundred dollar mistake.

I hunt everything from open country to the woods if that helps.

Thanks to all who reply.

i got my bushnell off e-bay for 80 dollars used, it list for 149 dollars new.

i use it for archery and works fine.

i would not waste my money on the ARC rangefinders.

what i would look for is smaller ones out now that can fit in your shirt pocket, that is what i would buy.

I bought a Bushnell 1000 with ARC at the beginning of the season. I havent had any trouble with, its pretty compact. As stated in the earlier post about the arc, i really couldnt get more than a yard of difference out of my treestand using the ARC. Im sure it might work better if your hunting really hilly country. Cabelas always has deals on the BushnellScout kit that comes with a knife andbinoculars, and they always have some kind of coupon out there. I would buy it again..........

Take a look at Leica, I bought mine for less than $400.

I bought the bushnell scout 1000 arc and had no problems during the deer season here in southern manitoba. the season was colder than it has been for quite a few years, but it still worked despite being around -20 celcius. The arc option for me is nice, since I hunt in a large valley where incline shots at 300+ yards are taken.

I have a Leupold RXII, I have used in for the past year deer and varmint hunting without issue, consistantly within 5 yds give or take of my buddies Nikon and Bushnell. Haven't had the opportunity to range for archery yet but from my treestands during the gun seasons were all dead on. Price vs features the Nikon's are hard to beat.

Look into the leica CRF1200 or CRF900.

You will not be disappointed. Everyone has there favorite for different reasons. My reason for buying Leica is optical quality, accuracy and the ability to range in low light conditions..i.e.dusk and dawn. Ya know, when the deer are MOVING! Try several and you will see the advantage Leica offers! Good Luck!
