Default Range Finders- Need a good basic model.

Reommendations for a good basic model range finder for 100-400 yd.

Rangefinder ratings are based on highly reflective objects, which game animals are not.As a result they usually only range game animals out to 1/2 to 2/3 of the rated range. If you want to range game animals to 400 yards, you need a rangefinder that is rated to at least 600 yards, preferably 800 yards.

I bought the Nikon 440 last year and love it. Crystal clear and it only costs about 200.

I am glad that you posted this since I am planning on getting one this weekend. I have been looking at the Leopold RX1. For the price it looks like a good model. Anyone have any thoughts on it compared to the Nikon?
