I'm thinking of putting a red dot scope on my winchester 1300 12 Ga. smooth bore. Does any body have any advice? You know things to look for or avoid. Thanks
The only way to slug hunt is with a red dot,
If you do ANY deer drives, or management hunts, the red dot is your friend.
3 buds have $25 BSA 30mm and love em.
I have a BSA on My bow, a Burriss on My 1100 SPS slug gun, and a Gilmore on My Mossgerg 500 slug gun.
I was on a managed hunt (DNR deer thinning) with My Mossberg 500/red dot. Had a group of 4 come in, dropped them all in about 4 seconds,
Both eyes open, as the red dot comes onto the target, squeeze, swing onto the next.
Now the differance from a $25.00 BSA to a $100 Burriss to a $200 Gilmore.
For one, by the middle of the morning the BSA is on the brightest setting and "may" be hard to see, the gillmore and burriss never get washed out.
Had the burriss out in the snow (mid day, sunny), I had to bump it up onto the highest setting. also the burriss and gilmore have finer windage and elev adjustments.
Dont get me wrong, The BSA will get the job done and seems to take the pounding of a 12 ga slug gun.

I beg to differ!!A good friend of minebought one of those BSA red dot sights, and we were sighting in our spring turkey guns at his housetwo spring seasons ago. Guess what!! His BSAsight fell apart after just shooting 5 turkey loads!! I was right there, and seen that happen first hand.
My suggestion, stay away from BSA, they are very cheaply made!!! If you want a "QUALITY" Red Dot sight, the "AIMPOINT" is the way to go!! Costly yes, but you do get what you pay for!!
I've heard that Tascos have gotten better than they used to be.
Anybody using one on a slug gun?

I've seen those low-priced BSA red dots, I think at Wal-Mart. Seemed to be a lack of quality, didn't really like them. I'd rather save up for something a little more durable.
I have the Bushnell Trophy red dot on my Winchester 1300 slug gun. The one with the different reticles. I find I lean toward the single small dot but it's fun to have the choice. This was the first year with it and it held up fine.Target aquisition was easy. Sure beats pulling up on a deer to find a twig has snapped off that little fiber optic on the front blade. I do wish I could find some flip up lens covers to fit it. So far I'm happy with it.
Keng, I have a Bushnell on my AR 15, I have not used it much though! I am thinking about putting it on my .44 Ruger SRH. I am guessing that if the Trophy holds up to a 12 ga. it will take the .44 too?
Anyone else have any experience with the Bushnell Trophy Red Dot on revolvers?

I also recommend staying away from BSA. I've got 2 of them and 1 works fine but the other won't stay zeroed. It might stay on for a month or just for a day. It costed me an easy shot on a turkey and when I got home I checked it and it was shooting about 2 feet low! Can't recommend what to get as I have quit using red dots all together.
