Looking for a mapping program for scouting.
I have dial up internet ONLY, so google earth and the like will not help, I need a CD based mapping program.

1) needs topos, good topos not 30' lines
2) Photo's ? do any have photos ?
3) update-able?

Thanks,
Slack

I suggest visiting an establishment that has broadband internet and go to www.flashearth.com it uses all of the maps from google, yahoo, msn, etc.

Check out: http://www.topo.com

National Geographics State Topos are pretty nice and they print well on a good inkjet. Just print the maps you want. Used the National Geographic mylar type paper and the ink will NOT run or smear. The software is CD based and can be a little on the spendy side. $100 per state. I use it in conjunction with a Magellan Meridan Platinum GPS and it works great. I can upload waypoint and tracks directly to the mapping software and then print them. I work for an engineering firm and these maps are better than the normal USGS quads we import into CAD drawings. I don't regret spending the $100.
