Default Rangefinders

I am looking for a really good rangefinder for my dad. He hunts in Texas in the Hill Country for deer with a rifle. Any suggestions? I want the best.

Try one of these. Well worth the $450 you'll spend.

don't buy the Nikon 440, i am disappointed with mine. don't get me wrong, it is a nice unit but i did not do enough research on it before i bought it. it only measures up to just under 400 yards. i was hoping to get more out of it. i know 99% of my shots are 300 yards or less, but i wanted the ability to range further. other than the limited range, the 440 is a good unit.

I have the Leica 900 and have used it for a couple of years. The optics are excellent and with the LED display is perfect for low light conditions. The scan feature is easy to use and very practical. This unit also uses a 9 volt battery, that"™s easy to purchase. I have no regrets in this range finder and plan on using it for a long time. Good luck...

I'll second the Leica 900. I have had it for 3 years and it is great. The red led is way easier to see inall conditions. It also automatically adjusts the intensity of the led depending on light conditions. There are no modes to fiddle with just look through the 7x view finder and push the button.

As stated above, Leica is the best. There are some choices on ebay now, including scan models.

Leica all the way... I have a Bushnelland my father has a Leica, although you wouldn't think that if you knew us, just because I always snatch it before he has a chance to take it. My buddy just bought a Leupold RXIII and came over to compare the 2. He now has 1 up for sale. I'm glad he came over because I was going to purchase that particular model because I am a diehard bowhunter and liked its feature but the optics are nothing like the Leicas. The only other 1 I would recommend (if you have spare cash lying around) would be the Swarovski.
My dad finally got tired of me taking his rangefinder, and bought me Leica LRF 700 PM at Cabelas. They are on sale now through the 15th of Jan. for 350....... And the optics are the same as the 900....
