RE: ATVs with large rear load capacity
I have a Polaris X2, and while I know that you state that it would not be useable due to size, you may want to take a closer look. It has some pretty neat features like a selectable oper rear end, locked 2wd and4wd. The reason that I bring this up is because by unlocking the rear end, what they call "turf mode", it allows you to make a lot sharper turn then what you would expect as you are not scrubbing the rear tires as they are not trying to fight each other like when they are locked. I can honestly say that it works as I do some scouting around our farm in East Texas going in, out, and around trees to get around. Unlocking the rear allows for some sharper then expected manouvering. The rear bed also has a tailgate and it has a tilting (dumping) bed with a compressed strut under it that gives you the ability to easily dump a load. Besides that you can simply pull a strap that unfolds the rear seat if you wish to carry a passenger. I have carried 300+ pounds of feed out to the cattle in the bed with no ill effects to the handling of the ATV. It also accepts a 1 1/4 reciever hitch in the rear. If it does not fit your needs then it just doesn't, but you may want to take a personal look at it to make sure. I believe Actic Cat also offers a model called the TVR that may suite your needs in a smaller wheelbase, but it costs about what the X2 does and it does not offer near the flexability.
