Honing your skills as a hunter and controlling your body/breath odors will do more for your chances than some charcoal filled gimmick ever will . However , if you must buy into the scent control suit mania then go for the type that has silver woven into it rather than the temporary cloak of activated carbon , silver is a proven antibacterial agent and never wears out like carbon .

I don't doubt that scent lok or other absorbant clothing helps, but playing the wind, being quiet in your stand, and how you walk to your stand also are key points.

It's easy to fake out young immature deer but if you want a mature whitetail you must do EVERYTHING right!!!

This topic pops up a lot and it's always interesting to read the various replies. There are those folks who swear by scent control suits and those that have no use for them. I myself believe that they hava an application, albeit limited and can help you get a deer to come in that may have winded you otherwise and not have come. This topic got so heated last year that I decided to do a test myself. I had showered that morning with regular old soap, shaved with shave cream and been at work all day long in my good ole navy uniform. I went hunting directly from work, put on my scent blocker suite and picked out a tree that put me directly upwind from where I knew the deer would come...if they came. Sure enough, a group of does, two of them mature, came down the trail right at me...with a good 10-15 mph wind blowing my scent right at their noses. I shot the largest doe at 15 yards and she (or the others) never knew I was there. Would they have come if I had just been in my regular hunting clothes? Who know? Maybe, but with that wind, I doubt it.
That said, I agree 100% with the other posts that say there is no substitute for skill, patients and time in the woods.
Good luck no matter what you decide.

Just remember this little factoid. for hundreds of years people have killed deer withoutscentlok but with the bigger presence of human scent in the woods the deer are evolving into a more weary creature and scentlok is an excellent tool of success for increasing your odds in the woods. i swear by scentlok just because it helps me be as mistake free as possible in the woods especially since i am an avid bow hunter. i do believe it is worth the money but i would like to see the prices drop cause it is expensive but i dont think they will drop.

I agree with most replies about doing your homework, hunt the wind etc., except for 1 thing. Scent-Lok or Scent Blocker or which scent control clothing you may choose, IS the key to controlling your body oder, especilly if worn with base layers ( for heat or cold control ). If your are going to your stand in early season, it's next to impossible to keep from sweating! Your body WILL create oders during and after sweating even if you bathe in scent free soap etc. Scent-Lok will help hold these oders in your clothing and keep them from escaping out where game can smell them.Especially a good scent-lok head cover.I still suggest bathing in scent free soap, using theanti-perspirant, breath spray etc.,keep your scent-lok clothing in a scent free bag until you get to your hunting area, then take them out and spray them down thoroughlywith scent killer spray before putting them on, including your boots ( preferably rubber ), your bow, backpack etc., before going to your stand. Scent-Lok definately works, if you take care of it! Nothing is completely scent free, but taking every precaution possible and doing your homework is what will get you closer to those big mature bucks.

I just don'tthink it is worth the money. Hunt the considering the thermal currents and the wind and you'll have no need of high $ clothing. I figure if I can get deer to walk within 1 foot of me in 90 degree weather without it, why do I need it!
