Default Kahles Binoculars-all users and owners respond

Well guys, I'm facing a tough decision[&:].

#1. I want a very good set of binos as opposed to the $50 Bushnells I'm using. The Bushnells are not clear at all in low light and I get eye strain pretty quickly[:@].

#2. I was originally considering the Cabela's Alaskan Guide binos but I decided I might actually spend more.

#3. How good are the Kahles Binoculars? Are they worth the extra couple hundred over the Alaskan Guide binos?

#4. I do alot of scouting during the summer and fall across fields, during low light, so would the 8X42's be the best bet as opposed to the 8X32 and 10X42.

Thank you everyone. I need all the help I can get. I have a limited budget.

Matt

I've used the 10x40's for about 5 years on several 10 day hunts. My gizzly hunt consisted on about 10 hours per day using my binocs. I didn't get any headachs & found them a good value. The only beef I have is the lens covers don't work well.

Sorry I don"™t have a pair, wish I did but if you"™re interested, you can check out the field test they did on a number of different brands of binoculars from Outdoor life and Kahles were included.

Sorry I can't respond to either of the binos you mentioned, as I have no experience with either. However I felt based on your information I would give you some info abouta pair ofbinos I use, mainly for the same purpose. I have the Pentax DCF SP 10x43, they are bright in low light situations and as dusk nears I always switch from my spotter to my DCF SP's while pre season scouting. I have put them through their hunting paces as well seeing elk, moose and deer duty in Sask. Canada (seen their share of weather..lol).They have been an excellent purchase from my perspective, with nothing negative to report. They compare very well to many other brands to my eyes (at least).

The main reason I went with the pentax is based on previous experience with their binos and more importantly their CS. Been using their PCF series for a number of years and on 2 occasion by my own admitted fault caused damage to my 12x50's. Each time I returned them to pentax the problem was taken care of at no expense of mine(besides the ship to costs). Furthermore I had the product returned from USA to canada in less than 1 months time. So IME they stand behind their products and provide excellent CS.

I am not sure how these stack up interms of cost with the models you mentioned but 10x43 run 600-650USD. So might be worthconsideration & most importantlycomparisonin your eyes.

Best of Luck

I have the 10x42 and really like them. I too agonized over spending that kind of money, but finally broke down. They are clear in all light situations. Buy them and don't look back.

Good luck with your decision

I bought a apair of the 8 x32 for $400. on e-bay that were one year old for an elk hunt last year. I contribute the 5 x5 elk that I got from using those binoculars. They were much better than the guide's pair. He could not see the elk at first light through his pair. I alsos agree with above postthat the lens covers do not stay on firmly. Great pair of glass.

8x42 is a great low light glass. But 7x42 is better.
I really liked the alaskan guide binos. For around 500 bones they seemed to be nearly as good as some of the premium glasses from nikon and zeiss.
I was not knocked out with the kahles binos. They were a good solid glass but at the price, there were some I liked better (like the Steiner perrigrines, steiner merlins, docter optic 8x42,
Good luck
