Default ??? salesman help on rangefinder

I went in to Dicks sporting goods to buy a rangefinder. On limited funds I looked at the 2 models that fell within my budget.
I asked the guy at the gun counter the differences between the two. He said that the BIGGEST difference was that one gave info to the yard and the other gave info to the half yard. Other than that there wasn't much difference.
I made the remark that i'm not sure that knowing if the deer was 150 or 150.5 yards made much of a difference. He said but when bowhunting it could make a difference of 18 inches in arrow drop at 20 yards. HUH?

So I asked the clarifying question. so if the deer is 21 yards away and then goes to 21.5 yards I will have to aim 18 inches higher on the deer?
He said, and I quote. "you bet. Unless you shoot over 280 FPS" the salesman next to him turned around and said, and I quote him, "maybe even more than 18 inches"

Oh my

Try the Nikon or Bushnell in the 400 yard range. Both can be purchased for under $200.

Those were the 2 that I was looking at. One was $149 the other was $199 and I was wondering about the differences in the two.
I was just amazed at the statements made by the salespeople. I'm much better off just asking all you guys here

I'm on my second Nikon (the first was stolen) and wouldn't buy anything else. I'm sure they will all work pretty much the same, I've just always used the Nikon and it's never failed me.

I'm not a bow hunter and that's pretty dern funny.

I never had a problem with employees of places like
walmart and such not being of any help mainly because
they never acted like they could or wanted to. But when
I start getting a line of sales crap from someone just
trying to move merchandise I'm likely as not to just
say "Thank You Very Much" and walk out.
I've typed this story here before but I like it so much
I'll bore with it again. Heard with my own ears at an
Academy Sports gun counter:
Customer; "What do you think of this rifle"?
Gun counter guy; "Don't ask me, I don't like guns".

I have more respect for AcademyGun counter guy than
than the Dicks Gun counter guy.

God bless

you always go prepared. I will go look and come home and look at others suggestions.I really like my nikon. I also bought min from dicks. I just bought what I thought would work best for me. 18 inches huh thats funny stuff right there. ask them if field points are good for shooting deer since they are about the same size as most bullets.
