Default Does waterproofing for hunting boots work?

My Rockys (season 4) didn't do wellin the rain this past Saturday and they were seeping at the seems and my feet were pruned by the end of the day. At least it was only in the mid 50's. So can the boots be re-waterproofed or is it time to get a new pair? If they can be waterproofed, what waterproofing product should I get and where?

You can waterproof them again. Are your Rocky's all leather, or leather/cordura? If leather, the suggested Seal Oil is good stuff. Sno-Seal is another good one. For leather/cordura boots, I'd suggest sticking with one of the spray coatings. I can't remember the name off the top of my head (and I'm at work so it's not easy to just check), but the one I've used before is sold in the camping section at Walmart/Kmart. It's a silicone spray, and has a brown cap on it. Since you're already leaking, give it a couple of good coats, and you should be good to go. Even though my hikers were goretex, I took the added precaution of spraying them before the first trip. I was walking through mud in the Adirondacks and the mud wouldn't even stick to the boot with that coating. Good stuff. Danner sells a couple different waterproofing treatments depending on the material of the boot as well. I've applied it to my Danners, but the boots have only been worn a few times so far and they're goretex as well, so my feet have no cause to be getting wet anyway. Good luck!

I believe that River Otter was talking about Camp Dry. I've used it for waterproofing various things, and it works well. Although, if you have a seam leak it would not work, instead try the Sportsmans Goop; it will fix the seam leaks. Good Luck!

That's it! I also use it on my fletching for my arrows, works pretty well for that too.

snow seal is good but doesnt last too long and i got tired of re-appling it. i suggest rubber boots or get yourself a pair of seal skinz socks. my buddies rocky boots leaked brand new. i would never buy a pair of rockys.

The trick with Sno Seal,(I think),is to warm up the boots a bit after they have been used. The stuff is wax based, and I think warming it up re-distributes it to seal the leather. It makes a mess on nylon, but works good on leather. If you realy want to keep your feet dry, you need to go with rubber, or at least rubber bottoms. Goretex is good for a quick dip, but doesn't seem to stay waterproof for long.
