Best digital trail cameras

I am looking to by a new digital trail camera. My budget is around 400-500 dollars. Which brand and model do you guys have experience with and would reccommend? What should I be looking for in a good digital trail camera? Please comment on the best choice of megapixals, quality of the pictures, battery life when using the camera, etc. Any and all suggestions and reccommendations would be welcome. Thanks in advance.
