Hi all,
Fairly new here but am in need of experts help. Been hunting several years but access to a new area of timber has me puzzled. New area is covered in thorns, nettles and burs. After setting up a stand, spent hours picking an combing nettles out of backpack and sweatshirt skirting.
First question - any special ideas on removing nettles and burs other than hours of picking?
Second question - what would you recommend for cover clothes to be worn during the hunt or on the trip in and out. Thought about rain gear but some of that does not breath - afraid the sweat with ruin any chances of success. Hate to have to remove clothes upon reaching the stand and then put them back on to exit the woods. I guess the best solution is something that resists all clinging vegetation and breathes to make sure I can stay cool. Underneath layers are Scent Lok Supreme pants and Browning Supresscentcoat.
Thanks for any suggestions you can provide -brands, prices etc... much appreciated.
I"™ve never found any secret to having them removed except for picking then like you mentioned. I know there are some certain material that has better resistance to them clinging of for a free ride but I'm not sure what the material would be called or what it's made from. Hopefully someone might answer to these little critters.
Most rain gear type material will resist picking up burrs.
For the fuzzy types that just get covered in those little seeds and stuff, you need a super sharp fillet knive. Lay the clothing out on something flat but verticle and use the knife to sort of scrape, not cut and you'll be amazed at how many just scrape off and fall to the ground.
You'll still be cussing for a little while but it will cut the time for the job by at least 50 to 75%.
I usually wind up picking a lot of them off the sleeves and stuff while sitting in the tree stand.
