.204 Ruger All around rifle. . .

I shoot a savage model 12 FV in the .204 caliber, im thinking about getting the same model but in a .243 or a .308cal.

the problem i have is i can get about a 300yd shot at most times, but i don't want anything that's gonna go too far. plus, i need something easy to reload and cheap to shoot. any suggestions?

Either the .243 or the .308 are fairly common cartridges for reloading, but I would rather go with the .308 with the heavier bullet selection. Good luck...
