This Scope below might be of interest. It has an illuminated reticle. It can be had for about 70$ as a close out from last year.

The BSA Cat's Eye 3-10x44 is a great variable-power hunting scope. It boasts precision-ground, fully multicoated glass optics for glare-free undistorted images. A large 44mm objective and oversized ocular lense promise good light transmission, and provide up to 5" of eye relief. The inconspicuous amber tint and European crosshair reticle (heavy-post sides and base) allow easy target acquisition in low light, or against dark backdrops such as timber. This scope sports a one-piece aluminum tube construction, and BSA"s durable 'Shadow Black' thin rubber finish. Finger adjustable elevation and windage knobs have knurled caps and ball bearings. This scope is waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof, and comes with BSA"s limited lifetime warranty.

Any of your mid-range bushnell, tasco, simmon's should be good for you .22,I have a 3-9 Simmons white-tail on mine and my brother-in-law has a bushnell sportsmans he paid like 50 bucks for. They work plenty good for shooting gophers and jack-rabbits.

Scopes such as the ones mentioned above are Hunting scopes and set parallax free @ 100yds. If your going to take a head shot at a squirrel, at 25yds, with a scope set parallax free @ 100yds, you could easily miss......

With that being said, shots with .22's usually average out at about 50yds so you should look for either a rimfire scope, a scope with an AO or a scope that is set parallax free @ 50yds from the factory (some companies will set it for you). Mueller Optics will set the parallax on their 2-7x32 and their 3-9x40 for 50yds if you order direct....

The only low priced scope I have is a Bushnell Banner DDB 3-9X40mm. This scope is mounted on my muzzleloader. I've thought alot about putting a higher priced model on it but really can't find a reason too. The scope is bright in low light and the internal adjustments are very accurate. I compared the brilliance of this scope against a Leupold vari-X II that I had and the cheap Bushnell was brighter. It has held up for 4 years on my Knight muzzleloader and has handled 150 gr charges of Pyrodex pellets with no problems so far. This scope is listed in Cabelas for $79.99. I think the scope is definitely worth this price. Like I stated this is the only cheap scope that I own but I can say that I've been completely satisfied with its performance. The other scopes I own are Leupold, Swarovski, Nikon, & Bushnell Elite 4200's.
