Default redbones?

I'm thinking about getting a redbone. not really for hunting, but more or less a yard dog that may be able to slow trail a deer for me every once in a while. I guess my question is how trainable are these dogs and would it be a good decision. I just want to make sure I'm not getting a hound that may end up being too gamey to even keep in the yard, or too stubborn to learn anything.thanks for your suggestions.
