PM Rebel Hog about Catahoula's. He used to breed them and knows lots about their abilities and history. I got one from New Orleans after Katrina. Best dog I ever had as a pet. She is a real herder and is faster than lightning.

The first pups we ordered came from Arkansas in 1967 and cross bred them untill 2000. I ran 4 hog dogsfor close to 40yrs. These old bones could not run anymore andwent to Deer hunting in 2000. Here are the breeds we crossed,

Catahoula

I have a catahoula/springer spaniel cross.
Fine pet.
Good pheasant flushing dog.
Excellent deer tracking dog. He will not run them though. Goes about 25-40 yards than waits for me to catch up. Than it starts all over again.
Here's Buddys picture.

Hey Rebel Hog, what is that dog in the third pic? You have catahoula below the pic but is that a full blooded catahoula or a mix?

I have both a curr and a catahoula. I use them for hog hunting, rounding cattle and they are excellent pets as well. The curr is a much more loyal dog in my oppinion, but the cat can catch just about any hog she has jumped and when needed, can be meaner than hell.
