Default South Carolina Hog Hunt !/26 -1/28

Just returned Sunday 1/29 from a 3 day hunt at Deerfield Plantation in St. George, South Carolina. This is my 6th year hog hunting and have managed to have had shots and kills in 4 out of the previous 5. I had great expectations when I booked this hunt, but the weather was not really what I had hoped for. When we arrived Wednesday afternoon the tempature was right around 80 degrees with more of the same predicted for the next day. Well the weather man was right on Thursday, it turned out to be 85 and sunny. My partner and I were set in stands in a swamp with all kinds of hog sign, but we saw no hogs. The only thing I saw was 1 deer right before dark. That night it rained, and rained some more. It was still raining when we got in the covered stands on Friday but was suppose to clear that morning. Well give the weather man a raise, he was right again. The day turned out to be sunny and windy, warm but comfortable. I saw a gorgeuos fox squirrel that kept my interest for most of the day, but no hogs. Finally at 5:35 I looked down the dirt road and saw a big black hog coming at 70 yards. When he stopped, quartering towards me the Ruger M77 in .308 let loose with a Federal Vital Shok 180 grain Nosler Partition. Down he went, he kicked for a few minutes, then game over. When my guide Kevin showed up at dark he was all smiles. He weighed in at a little under
200 pounds. The next day my partner shot a smaller hog at 11:30 and I passed on a smaller hog Saturday evening. I had the rifle up but decided I wouldn't shoot. We had a great time.

Glad you had a good time. I'm just down the road in Summerville, SC.
Weather has been balmy all winter. Last couple of days cooled off a little. Days in the 60's and nights in the 30's.

Next time, don't hold back. Shoot every hog you can. There's getting to be too many. I shot 5 last year.

The only problem with shooting them all is, he charges $40 per animal for dressing them.

Mrkimber-we're practically neighbors!

Sounds great,any photos?

Really I'm interested in the logistics of your hunt. I have family living "down south" at present & a muzzleloader hog hunt in mind at some point. For example, transportation of the meat home? traveling w/ a rifle? etc.
