Personally, I wouldn't go with any of them. I'm not a pet person. I hunt and eat animals, not take care of them. Humans are for companionship.

For the love of god don't get a parrot.
You will regret it forever.

hedghogs can be fun. You have to get them young though, and hold them everyday. And I mean for the first few months you have them you need to hold them and play with them quite a bit. I recommend going as far as to wear a t-shirt all day then cut a patch out of it for the thing to keep in its cage. Otherwise they never get used to you and will stay nervous and uptight all the time, making them a lot less fun.

If the hedgie is comfortable with you they will be about like a hamster. Except that you can let it run around the room with you. My ex wife played with ours all the time, hell, they would even take naps together.

I hear sugar gliders are cute but smell terrible. I could never get past the ferret smell, but they are funny as hell to watch. A friendly, litterbox-trained bunny can be a fun pet too.

I'd go with sugar glider for the exotic. Stay away from monkeys!!!! They bite, they grab, they throw poop.

Quote from the book "The Hot Zone"...In match between a 200# man and a 20# monkey; bet on the monkey.
