Default Anybody ever try calling wild hogs?

I'm trying to decide if I should buy a Foxpro electronic caller. I wanted to know if anybody has used one for hogs and if it worked. And if you have used a Foxpro what sounds you used.

In my experience, pigs don't hear good enough to make calling effective. The only pig call I use is a grunt call that calms them down when I gave to break brush to get into bow range.

I have to disagree with that. In my experiance hogs hear very well but lack in good eye sight. I've never tried to call hogs but been busted by them several times making the slighest noise.

I've grunted and squealed several hogs to get them into bow range. It works, as long as you keep the calls short and don't wail away too long.

It works really well if you've patterned a drift of hogs in your hunting area. Make a few feeding grunts a little earlier than they normally show up. Sometimes you can get'em to come running, especially a sow with piglets. Big boars are cautious, and will often circle downwind to catch the scent of the "feeder".

I have had very good success with a squealer call. On the ranch, I blow the call for 4 or 5 minutes, then wait about 10 minutes. If hogs don't come, then I move to another location and try again. Usually don't have to move more than 4 times before the first pig gets wacked.

I've also played around with hogs by grunting with success.

That's interesting. The only times I've been busted by hogs was they caught my scent. Ive been on stalks through brush where I thought it would never work and sure enough they had no idea I was there. I will have to try calling sometime.
