A good shooting 12 gauge slug should kill anything on this continent, but you will have range limitations. If getting into comfortable slug range is not a problem, it will kill a pig just as dead as anything else. Then it's just a matter of what you feel more at home shooting. My bud killed a huge Russian boar up at Nugent's ranch in Michigan with a smoothbore 870 Express slug gun with no problems.
That's my 2 cents anyhow.

I agree. Stay within the effective range of your gun, and with a well placed shot, a 12 gauge with sabots will crush a hog.

Personally, I would never choose a slug gun, when I could legally use a rifle. A rifle is more accurate, less recoil, cheaper to shoot and can effectively kill 1-500yds or more. Fact is, there is absolutely zero advantage to using a slug gun over a centerfire for hogs. Bring the 300mag.

I have a bolt action remington 700 300 magnum and a 338 mag. I just recently purchased actually yesterday a thompson encore 300 magnum I think this will be the gun going on the hunt possible depending on how comfortable I am with shooting the gun. I appreciate all your help everyone.
