Default Airline packing question

Im going on a hog hunting trip next week and i'm not sure how to pack my Marlin 336. The airlines said that i need to take the bolt out, but i'm not sure if i should replace the lever or just leave it with it off. Any suggestions? What does everyone else do?

just walk right into the airport with it fully loaded....lol just kidding...get a good case, dont lock it with out a yellow lock given(sold) to you by the security at the airport. they will want to inspect it and if its locked they will break it if they want in. take the bolt out leave it in the case, cause your carry on wont make it through with it in there.lol

Flew out to Texas not long ago and found that it wasn't a big deal. DO NOT use a TSA lock!!!! I used a padlock on the metal gun case. The bolt was removed and the ammo was in it's original container packed in the gun case. I was escorted into a room where a TSA inspector had me unlock the case. He inspected the gun and then HE locked it back up and handed me the key. Do yourself a favor and take a copy of the TSA regulations as well as a copy of the airlines policy regarding firearms because chances are the person at the ticket counter will have no idea what to do. Here's the TSA link: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtrav...rial_1666.shtm

Go to the airlines website and print out a copy of their guidelines and have both in your hands when checking your baggage. Good luck.

They don't even require you to take the bolt out of a bolt action rifle (336 is a lever). Put it in a hard case (buy a good, sturdy one), and declare it as a firearm at the airline counter. They will give you a form to fill out, inspect it to see it's unloaded and have you lock the case with your lock and keep the key. Pack your ammo in your separate checked luggage in the original factory carton (you'll need a TSA lock on this one incase they pick it up on x-ray and want to inspect). Be sure to check with the airline ahead of time and follow their regulations, enjoy your trip, you'll have a good time.
