Default .270 for hog and deer

i am getting into reloading and thought that since my buddy already has a .270, i would one first then get a .308 later. this way i can reload for the both us to keep the cost down. The question is, will this caliber be enough for hog and deer or should i just get a .308 and be done with it?

270 will flatten any deer or pig that you ever come across. Used mine for elk and moose, and they don't move.

My dad and brother use a .270 for both, it definitely gets the job done.

The reason I said .270 was becasue as stated in my earlier post, My buddy also has a .270, and this will help out when I start reloading my own ammo. What is your reasoning for stating 7mm-08? Just getting back into hunting, I am a pistol guys and just was curious to your reponse.

Thanks Redgreen,
I don't have to worry about the elk and moose here in Florida but it is nice to know that this caliber will be up for the task if I decide to take a trip.

.270 is just fine for both IMO.

The 270 is plenty for both. I have proof of it.

XDM, I used the .270 for deer many years in North FL, but only when hunting power lines........As for hogs, 50 years running dogs with a .357 side arm......If you want to use a rifle for hogs, I would choose the .308........

A 7mm-08 is a necked down .308 and it is flatter shooting...

Default .270 or .308?

I shoot a .308 for much the same reason you're considering a .270. My buddy has one, and it simplifies the reloading. If my buddy had possessed a .270, that's what I'd be shooting.

a .270 will take down anything in the lower 48 states.
