Default Ca hog hunting help

Posted this in the regional forums but got no reply, so I'll try here.

I'm a public land hunter. Mostly out of necessity due to costs. Not willing to pay money to hunt.

Problem is the area I typically hunt for hogs seems to be dead. Burned out real bad last year, and it never was THAT good anyway.

So I'm asking if anyone would be kind enough to point to public land that's decent for hogs. I live in the southern part of the SF Bay Area. I'll travel up to about 6 hours to go hunting as I usually make a 4 day camping/hunting trip out of each one I go on. So, anywhere in Ca. would be good.

I know a lot of people don't like to give up their honey holes, but if you'd just point me to a general area I'd appreciate it. Just trying to avoid staring at maps for hours only to find out it sucks when I get there.

Thanks.

I would start on your states DNR website and see what WMA's are near you. And if they even allow you to hunt hogs there.

Thank you so much for responding.

I've contacted DFG and the Forest Service. They mostly just recommended buying maps, and had two tell me that hogs were very hard to find in most of California. Which we all know is BS.

As far as the LaPanza area, what part of 58 are you talking about. I noticed that it hits two different parts of Los Padres National Forest, one part close to Pozo area, and the LaPanza Ranch area seems to be between the two. I figured on going to the North Western section closer to San Luis Obispo. Topo maps look good there, but I'm wasn't sure if this area had decent camping spots. I always dry camp, never use campgrounds. Is there plenty of decent camping areas in either of those areas?

Thanks, I know I'm asking for a lot of specific info.
