Default First Hog ever!

I figured since a couple of the guys just posted either the one they have pursued or thier biggest I thought I would post my first. I'm 46 and have hunted since I was 6 and never got into hog hunting until last fall. I came across a guy that got me involved into a club in Northern Fl that is just inundated with hogs. I had never really seen anything like it. The signs that I saw were not "pig trails" they were absolute freeways! I was hooked from then on. I spent a lot of time and money getting set up with feeders and blinds and or a ladder stand and never in a million years thought I would buy, a game cam. I went up to the property last month and up until then the only hogs that we saw were on the cam. I was walking to my blind and just before I got to it I saw him feeding just behind a bush. All I got was a head shot. I obviously couldn't tell how big he was or wether it was a boar or a sow. After spending the time and money I have spent in the last 5 months I wasn't about to let it go. I didn't even take the time to put my pack down and shouldered and fired. Dropped himon the spot. I has always heard they were tough to kill so I put a couple of 45 rds in his head and made prep to get him out of the woods. Keep in mind we have mosquitoes the size of golf balls so this wasn't an easy task. I was afraid he would eat very well so I had him processed and it turned out well!

I am not only hooked I am also in the process of getting a crossbow and do the majority of my hunting with it. My wife thinks I'm nuts with the obsession but she is glad I am having a good time. That my friends is what "it is all about, FUN". So here he is! I hope the pic shows up!

We guess he weighed in between 150 and 160 +-. I have enjoyed the forum here so far and will keep coming back.

Thanks Steve

Great story and awesome boar!!! I'm from FL originally and that's where I've done the majority of my hog hunting. IMO, FL is the best state of all for hogs.

Hey Steve. I am the "guy" that got you started. Go kill some more of those bastards. Congrats and looks like a fat one. I have to show you how to butcher them to save you guys the works. We can usually get a hog shot/skinned/cleaned and in white paper in about an hour.

Hey snook! looking forward to the cooler weather and getting back up there. I will go up weekend after the 4th and fill feeders. John helped me get it cleaned in the woods. It was aobut 9:00. He wasn't sure how he would eat either but he didn't smell so we took around the corner and got some sausage made. It taste really good except is seems to have grit in it. Little concerned weather if they dropped it on the floor and just kept on grinding!!!! Makes you wonder!

I have been hooked on a lot of hobbies but this one takes the cake. Look forward to chattin in here.

Nice !!

Judging from the photo that hog looks to be, in my opinion, about the perfect size. Not so big (and old)
so as to be too tough, but large enough to provide enough meat to reward the effort. The most recent
one I shot (see http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=3435896 ) is going to have to mostly go
through the meat grinder or the pressure cooker.

Congratulations !! Nice kill, and good photo.
