M1 Carbine- enough to hunt piggies?

I've been a life long hunter, mainly duck and dove, with an occassional deer/squirrel hunt mixed in. Recently I've gotten quite interested in hunting pigs, and I was wondering what some of the experienced hog hunters out there think about using an m1 carbine? I like the M1, and I kind of hate to spend a ton of money on another gun I'm not sure how much I'll get to use right away. I thought about a lever action, but again, just wanting some opinions from otheres. Does the M1 cargine have enough power for pigs? I like the fact that being an autoloader, I could have follow-up shots if needed, and that it is smaller and lighter weight that would be great for tromping through the woods. Thoughts?

Yes, plenty. Lots of people as well as myself on occasion, even use a .22 long rifle for pigs
I have a M1 30caliber and I love getting up close in groups of hogs.

Every year around this time the piggies come to feast in my orange grove like its a darn buffet! My M1 .30 cal is the perfect (i think) remedy. It's light and the 30 round clip is great for follow up shots. Perfect for walking around the grove. I've read a few articles stating within 50 yards it punches just as much or more than a .357 mag. If that is true or not I'm not sure but it puts the piggies down with no problem.

I appreciate the responses, I've looked prices, and the new auto ordiance m1s seem way overpriced. I know I may have luck at a show or a surplus store. I've also started looking at Ruger Mini 14s, the .223 probably being a better overall carttidge than the .30 carbine.

It is definitely a fun type firearm that was developed for close encounters of the "Big kind", meaning man, it is NOT very accurate but plenty accurate for preferably 75 yd and under. The military amo will just pass right through (little damage) so aim for the head. Some manufacturer like Hornady/Speer/etc, might load amo with hunting type bullets, I don't know, worth a check if you really want to depend on it from an accuracy and performance standpoint.

I'm not sure how much a new M1 carbine costs or how much the Mini-14 costs either but if I had to chooseI would pick the Mini-14. To me its a much more versatile gun.
